RI women in Myanmar for soccer event

JAKARTA: The Indonesian women's soccer team left Tuesday for the ASEAN women's soccer championships at Aung San Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar, from Sep. 6-15.

Indonesia will take on Malaysia on Friday, the Philippines on Sunday and defending champion Vietnam on Tuesday in the group stage matches, which will decide who moves on to the semifinals.

Host Myanmar will be in Group B with Singapore, Thailand and Laos.

An executive with the Indonesian Soccer Association overseeing women's soccer, Eha Habibah Ardi, is hopeful of a good result at the tournament.

""If our players can deliver a good showing and reach the tournament final then they have greater chance to be selected to play in the upcoming SEA Games in Thailand this December,"" Eha said. --JP
