All the way from Brazil

The Jakarta Post ,  Jakarta   |  Sat, 09/08/2007 3:11 PM  |  Opinion

I'm a Brazilian and I'm married to an Indonesian. I was glad to read about the Brazilian festival in Jakarta promoted by the Brazilian Ambassador.

It is unfortunately true that Indonesians only know about Brazilian soccer, the samba and capoeira, while Indonesia is only known for Bali in Brazil.

Brazil's enterprise in teaching Jakartans about other aspects of our culture through paintings, pictures, music, dance and movies on our Independence Day is important.

Here in my country, Indonesian Independence Day is usually celebrated by the Indonesian communities only, and Indonesian culture is seldom publicized except through workshops and handicraft fairs. There is nothing specific.

I hope both countries increase tourism and our relations.
