JAKARTA: At least 1,860 security personnel from the Jakarta Police and the Public Order Agency will be deployed to safeguard the Oct. 7 swearing-in ceremony of the incoming gubernatorial team of Fauzi Bowo and Prijanto.

""We have coordinated with related institutions about the security arrangements. We just want to make sure the ceremony goes well,"" spokesman for the City Council Chaidir Amsir said Wednesday.

Security personnel would be spread around the City Council compound in Central Jakarta's Kebon Sirih area.

""A day before D-day, the compound will be closed to the public,"" Chaidir was quoted as saying by the city's news portal BeritaJakarta.com.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to be attended by 900 invitees including ambassadors, political party representatives and academics.

Backed up by a 19-party coalition, Fauzi and Prijanto won the first-ever direct gubernatorial election on Aug. 8, defeating pair Adang Daradjatun and Dani Anwar, who were endorsed by the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS). --JP
