BANDUNG: Prosecutors demanded judges sentence Lexie Max Giroth, the dean of the state-owned Public Administration Institute (IPDN) to two years imprisonment and a fine of Rp 5,000 (55 U.S. cents) for covering up the violent incident that lead to the death of Cliff Muntu.

The team of prosecutors for the Bandung Attorney General's Office, led by Happy Hadiastuti, said Lexie had tried to cover up the cause of Cliff Muntu's death, a student at the institute.

Based on the testimony of 22 witnesses, the three charges against Lexie were proven.

Lexie was charged under a 2004 medical law, article No. 221 of the Criminal Code on concealing guilt and article No. 263 of the Criminal Code on falsifying documents.

""Lexie deliberately committed these crimes. He has tarnished the image of medical services and provided false information,"" Happy told the court led by Judge Kresna Menon on Tuesday in Bandung.

One of Lexie's lawyers, Yefta Kaligis, said the prosecutors' charges did not take all of the evidence presented during the trial into consideration.

""Some witnesses, including Bernard Rondonuwu, said the former rector of IPDN, I Nyoman Sumaryadi, had instructed Lexie to take those particular actions,"" Yefta said. -- JP
