Support to busway project

A- A A+

The Pondok Indah community's rejection of busway Corridor VIII serving the route of Harmoni-Lebak Bulus seems to be an exaggeration, while in fact the other seven corridors already built have operated smoothly despite the jams in their initial periods of construction -- a sacrifice demanded by development.

Without busway facilities, Jakarta's traffic would be over congested. The distance from Harmoni to Kalideres can now be covered in 30 minutes, compared with an hour previously. Likewise, it takes only 35 minutes to travel from Blok M to Jakarta-Kota, against over an hour by ordinary transport.

Five million motor vehicles are packing the capital, of which only two percent are public transport facilities. The 98 percent private cars are still coupled with 600,000 units coming from urban fringes like Bogor, Depok, Bekasi and Tangerang. The congestion has caused a total loss of Rp13 trillion (US$1.41 billion). FERRY EFRINAL
