Hearings postponed over security

JAKARTA: The Central Jakarta District Court postponed Monday's hearing session for two of four terrorist defendants and rescheduled the hearings to Tuesday because of security concerns.

""The trial of the two terrorist defendants -- Suparjo alias Sarwo Edi Nugroho and Maulana Yusuf Wibisono, alias Kholis -- will be postponed ... along with the trial of the other two suspects,"" Court spokesman Heru Pramono told detik.com.

""This has been done to help ease security arrangements for the trials.""

Suparjo and Maulana were initially scheduled to read their own defense statements against allegations of any involvement with the Jamaah Islamiyah terror network in separate trials Monday.

Both have been charged with article 9 of Government Regulation No. 1/2002 in lieu of the law on antiterrorism.

The article can attract the death sentence. -- JP
