Senior poet Toto Sudarto Bachtiar dies

Acclaimed poet Toto Sudarto Bachtiar died Tuesday of heart attack during a trip to Banjar, West Java. He would have been 78 on Oct. 12. One of Indonesia's literary pioneers, along with WS Rendra, Toto's most famous works include Pahlawan Tak Dikenal (Unsung Heroes) and the Indonesian translation of Ernest Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms. He is survived by a wife and a daughter. His wife Zinar said Toto was working on the translation of Leo Tolstoy's masterpiece War and Peace. He was buried later in the day at the family cemetery in Gumuruh, Bandung.
