Six dead from alcohol poisoning

PADANG, West Sumatra: Six men in Ujung Gading, West Pasaman regency have died from alcohol poisoning, while another 12 are in intensive care.

West Pasaman Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Mafira Zen said Wednesday that the incident tok place on Monday morning. The 12 men were still in hospital on Wednesday.

He said the dead men were from several parts of the city.

""They were mixing various alcoholic drinks into one, and it probably caused poisoning,"" Mafira said.

He said people had been warned of the dangers of alcohol. The police launched a massive raid eight days before Idul Fitri and confiscated hundreds of bottles of alcohol. -- JP
