MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara; Six West Lombok Police officers were being investigated Monday over their alleged role in the death of a robbery suspect, Mahli, 42, last week.

""Internal affairs are currently interviewing the six officers to determine whether the arrest was carried out in accordance with accepted procedures,"" West Nusa Tenggara police spokesperson Adj. Sr. Comr. HM Basri said.

Mahli was arrested on Oct. 15 following a robbery at Cafe Duo, during which seven armed robbers allegedly wounded Lalu Riyadi, the owner of the cafe.

A few hours after the arrest, Mahli died in a police hospital in Mataram.

Suspected police brutality led Mahli's fellow villagers from Perigi to attack the local police precinct over two nights.

""An autopsy had been performed on his body to determine the cause of death,"" Basri said.

""But we are still waiting for the autopsy report."" -- JP
