JAKARTA: The Constitutional Court on Wednesday told the Chinese Reform Party (Parti) to revise its request for a judicial review of the Political Party Law.
""The request has to be revised and strengthened with new arguments because the article (in question) has been reviewed before,"" presiding judge Mukhtie Fajar told the party, as reported by Detik.com news portal.
Mukhtie said a previous petitioner had used the same argument as Parti in seeking a judicial review.
The party was given 14 days to revise its petition.
Parti is seeking a judicial review because it believes the 2002 law accommodates the interests of big parties only.
The focus of its review is Article 2 of the law, which requires parties to have chapters in half of all provinces, and regional branches in half of all regencies and mayoralties in each province.
""The law is driven by the interests of major parties, which want to limit the number of political parties,"" said Parti chairman Lieus Sungkharisma. -- JP
