Bali rugby event to kick off

JAKARTA: Eighteen teams from New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Guam, Malaysia and Indonesia will compete at the THIESS Indonesia International Rugby 10's Bali 2007, at Canggu Club, Bali, this weekend.

The host will be represented by 12 teams.

All the teams will play pool matches on Saturday followed by a round of finals on Sunday to decide the 2007 Cup, Plate, Bowl and Shield champions.

This is the highest number of Indonesian-based rugby players to take part in the tournament during its 13-year history.

Indonesian Rugby said more than 60 percent of the players from participating local clubs are Indonesian-born, a sign of the rising popularity of the sport in the country. -- JP
