Kemayoran, Senen, targets of raids

JAKARTA: Senen and Kemayoran will be the main targets of raids on illegal migrants in the next week, the city administration has announced.

""These areas are famous as destinations for newcomers to the city,"" said Central Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Sub-Agency head Valentino Simanungkalit on Sunday as quoted by Antara news wire.

He said his office would issue warnings to the newcomers in the area starting Monday so that they could try to obtain the necessary documents before the first raid next Thursday.

Separately Governor Fauzi Bowo said he would conduct the raids in more ""humane"" way than previous years.

""We will provide a longer notification time for the newcomers to make them aware that they have to register if they want to stay in the city,"" he said.
