BANDUNG: Six police officers were injured, two seriously, in Garut regency, West Java following a clash with a motorcycle gang at 11 p.m. Saturday.
The incident began when 100 members of the gang allegedly attacked houses in Sukapada hamlet.
""They were making this 'show of force' to residents. We responded by deploying a company of around 100 officers to control the situation. It turned out that when we blocked them, they resisted,"" Garut Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Eko Budi Sampurno told The Jakarta Post on Sunday.
The police clashed with the bikers, some of whom were carrying weapons including knives and long samurai blades.
One police office was hit by a motorcycle and taken to Hasan Sadikin hospital in Bandung.
The police managed to apprehend 42 members of the XTC gang and confiscated six sharp weapons and 31 motorcycles.
""We declare war against motorcycle gangs,"" Eko said. -- JP
