JAKARTA: Next month 31-year-old violinist Maylaffayza plans to launch her first solo album.
""Hopefully I'll be able to launch my new album in the second week of November,"" she said recently during a nationwide blogger gathering.
""The album will mark some two years of hard work,"" said the musician, who also worked as the executive producer and music director on the album.
A well-known student of veteran violinist Idris Sardi, Maylaffayza said she had explored the ""pop crossover"" genre in her new album.
""Violin music is undoubtedly always associated with classical music. I wanted to do something non-classical,"" she said.
""As part of this crossover concept, I have mixed western and eastern music styles with traditional Indonesian music. I have also included some rhythm.""
Maylaffayza said she sang in five of the album's compositions.
""This album is all about liberty. I've been in the industry for 21 years. It's time to free myself,"" she said.
""I'm not bound to rules such as playing violin only in classical compositions. Hopefully those who listen to my album will realize anything is possible."" --JP
