JAKARTA: Former state minister of state enterprises Laksamana Sukardi said Wednesday he would present himself at the Attorney General's Office for questioning related to the 2004 sale of two oil tankers owned by state oil company PT Pertamina.
""I have decided to accept the AGO's summons to present to prosecutors all necessary data and facts on the sale of the two very large crude carriers (VLCC), so that the public can know the true story behind the transaction,"" he said.
Laksamana, named as a suspect on Friday, called on the AGO to maintain its neutrality for the sense of justice and truth in investigating the case.
""If the investigation is conducted for political interests, it will damage President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's credibility and the world's confidence in the rule of law in Indonesia,"" he said.
Laksamana, a leader of the Reformed Democratic Party (PDP), said recently he was suspicious of a political move engineered by his rivals to weak his party ahead of the 2009 general elections.
The party was established by Laksamana and several other politicians after they failed in 2005 to win leadership of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) at a national congress in Bali. -- JP
