JAKARTA: The presiding judge in the trial of former Garuda Indonesia president director Indra Setiawan said Tuesday the court would issue a summons to force all witnesses to attend the next trial session.
Indra is on trial at the Central Jakarta District Court for conspiracy to murder human rights activist Munir Said Thalib.
Among the witnesses who did not appear were Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto, the former Garuda pilot who was previously acquitted in the case, and Ramelgia Anwar, former vice-president for corporate security at the flag carrier.
Only two witnesses showed up for the trial session, former Garuda chief pilot Karmal Fauza Sembiring and Munir's widow, Suciwati.
During the session Karmal said Pollycarpus had shown him a letter appointing the latter as aviation security officer in August 2004. He said he thought this was odd because pilots rarely received the job.
He also testified that even with this clearance, Pollycarpus' presence on Munir's flight on Sept. 6, 2004, was contrary to usual procedure.
The session was adjourned to Nov. 27, when other witnesses will be questioned. (JP/uwi)
