Police at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport have detained two suspects for allegedly forging police ID cards and producing counterfeit license plates that appear to belong to senior police officers.
Airport Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Guntur Setyanto said Saturday that the first suspect, identified as Julianto, was arrested while entering the departure terminal on Nov. 8.
Julianto was driving a Nissan Terano jeep with license plate 1777-02, followed by his driver, HD, in a Mercedez Benz S230, with license plate 491-00.
""These numbers are special ... given only to high-ranking police officers at National Police Headquarters. But no officers use Mercedez Benzes as their official cars, not with the country in the economic state it's in,"" he told reporters.
Investigators found that Julianto, who works for a travel agency, had three fake ID cards, one purportedly issued by National Police Headquarters, one by the House of Representatives, and one by the Presidential Guard.
""The suspect used the fake ID cards and license plates to gain easy access to the airport when checking in his clients,"" Guntur said.
Julianto also had police insignia in his possession, which he claimed he bought from one ST, who resides in Central Jakarta. The police have arrested ST as a suspect for forgery.
