JAKARTA: World No. 86 Jeeve Milka Singh of India is so far the highest ranked golfer to confirm his participation in the US$1.2 million Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia Open golf tournament on Feb. 14-17, organizers said Tuesday.
Tournament chief executive officer John Eu said that in addition to Singh, world No. 189 Darren Clarke and world No. 217 Paul McGinley, both from Ireland, would also play in the tournament, which will be held at Cengkareng Golf Club in Tangerang, Banten province.
"We are glad to announce that those three star players can participate in the tournament. They are great golfers from the European and Asian tours," said Eu.
Organizers, however, could not confirm the presence of defending champion Mikko Ilonen of Finland in this year's tournament.
In addition, organizers have set aside 13 wild cards for Indonesian golfers.
The Association of Indonesian Amateur Golfers (PGI) said it would send seven pro golfers and six amateur golfers to the event, including Indonesian squad members from the 2007 Southeast Asian Games -- Andik Maulidin, Benny Kasiadi, Suprapto and Hardjito. -- JP
