BANDUNG: Padjadjaran University (Unpad) celebrated on Jan. 31 the 70th birthday of author Ajip Rosidi with a book discussion held on campus.

The birthday celebration was held to show the university's appreciation for the noted author, who is known for enriching not only Sundanese literature, but also Indonesian literature.

Ajip is also known for introducing Sundanese literature to the international community, especially to Japan.

During the 1980s, he was a guest professor at institutions in Osaka, western Japan.

"Kang (brother) Ajip has been familiar with the ideas of Western thinkers since his youth, either through books or direct discussions," Unpad rector Ganjar Kurnia said. -- JP
