Officer foils robbery with gunshot

JAKARTA: A police officer stopped an attempted armed robbery at the Taman Ria Senayan T-intersection in South Jakarta by firing a warning shot into the air.
One of the two robbers, Rendy Saputra, surrendered himself at the sound of the gunshot, while his accomplice fled the scene.
"We were able to catch Rendy because he stopped," said the police's crime division head Adj. Sr. Comr Fadil Imran as quoted by Detik news portal.
Rendy and his accomplice had just stolen a cellular phone from a woman driving a sedan before the unidentified police officer intervened.
Police returned the stolen phone, which was in Rendy's possession. --JP
