KUPANG: Three were killed and two went missing when a densely populated village in Sikka regency, East Nusa Tenggara, was hit by a landslide early this week.
Head of the provincial social affairs office Frans Salim said in Kupang on Thursday information about the disaster reached his office too late because of communication problems.
"There is no detailed information on the identities of the victims and the condition of evacuees and the missing persons," he said.
He said the office has begun the delivery of emergency aid to the disaster location.
Frans said the landslide was triggered by constant rain that began last Saturday.
Sikka's regent, Aleks Longginus, was not reachable due to the cut communication networks. --JP
