JAYAPURA: Papua Governor Bas Suebu has distributed 2008 special autonomy funds, totaling Rp 3.5 trillion, to 30 regencies and municipalities in Papua and West Papua on Wednesday.
The funds were allocated based on seven factors, including population, regional revenues and territorial conditions.
The governor also allocated Rp 4.25 billion to 130 villages and Rp 1.2 trillion to the provincial government.
The government asked regents and mayors to spend a larger portion of the money on the public sector, instead of the bureaucracy, in order to improve social welfare. --JP
