Govt to decide on N. Maluku governor

JAKARTA: The government will make a decision on the installment of the newly elected governor and vice governor of North Maluku, Abdul Gafur and Abdurrahim Fabanyo.

State Secretary Hatta Radjasa said Sunday the President would wait for the Home Ministry to submit a recommendation before issuing a decree on the matter.

"We expect the ministry to soon complete its evaluation of the results of the North Maluku gubernatorial election," he said.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) declared Gafur and Fabanyo the winners of the election, over Thaib Armaiyn and Gani Kasuba, after a ballot recount in three North Maluku districts.

The KPU's decision annulled a previous declaration by the provincial election body that Thaib and Kasuba had won the election. -- JP
