BANYUMAS, Central Java: Banyumas Police over the weekend seized some 6,400 liters of illegal kerosene, 32 drums and a truck from a local businessman who was detained for further investigation.
Banyumas police chief Sr. Comr. Emron Putra Agung said the raid followed a lead obtained from a recent crackdown on illegal kerosene in the regency.
Police identified the owner of the fuel from the truck's driver.
"Indra Wono Santoso alias Hengki is still being interrogated," Emron said.
According to preliminary investigations, the kerosene was obtained from Ciamis in West Java at a cost of Rp 2,500 (26 US cents) per liter, and sold for Rp 2,800 per liter to fishermen in the regency.
Illegal kerosene is often produced with unconventional chemical mixtures that can affect engines, and national fuel distributor Pertamina. --JP
