In our Feb. 20 editorial, we cited a verdict by the Central Jakarta District Court as if PT Lapindo Brantas had been found guilty of negligence in its handling of the mudflow in Sidoarjo, East Java. The court cleared Lapindo of any wrongdoing as claimed by the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation in its lawsuit against the company last year.

Only in its points of consideration did the court agree with the plaintiff that the mudflow was triggered by human error.
