DENPASAR: Two active grenades were found at a temple in Buleleng, Bali, by a local cleric during residents' collective work ahead of Nyepi celebrations.
The grenades, made in 1943 and 1945, were found fully intact above a statue at Dadia Pasek Sibang temple. They were taken to the police station in Jembrana.
"We are now looking for who owned these grenades and also the motive behind (leaving them at the temple)," Bali Police spokesman Sr. Comr. A. S. Reniban told reporters Thursday.
He said a team would soon begin investigations.
The discovery of explosive materials in several places around the island recently have raised security fears. In some cases people were injured or killed in coming upon the explosives, as in Kebo Iwa and Canggu, Denpasar. -- JP
