Jakarta updates voter list

JAKARTA: The city administration said Friday it was updating its voter database ahead of the 2009 legislative and presidential elections.

"The data will also be used to determine whether we need more council members," Governor Fauzi Bowo said.

In the 2004 elections, Jakarta registered 7.7 million voters to elect 75 City Council members.

An official from the Population and Civil Registration Agency, Hari Susanto, said the voter list from the Jakarta gubernatorial election last August would be used as part of the process.

Fauzi said he expected the new list to be completed in April. -- JP
