David (Hayden Christensen) possesses the mysterious ability to teleport at will and is a sort of young Thomas Crown, making a living by stealing and generally enjoying himself. Enter Samuel L. Jackson, surprisingly lackluster as the villain of the piece, dedicated to destroying all of David's kind. Jamie Bell, as an angst-ridden fellow Jumper, makes this film bearable: he's natural and funny, even when the lines are not. Christensen isn't terrible but it's such a typical role -- gutsy and not very smart -- and soon wears thin. There are a few fun scenes but Jumper is all setup and no pay-off, obviously written with sequels in mind. **1/2 (out of *****)
