Forum: On soap commercial -- March 24, p. 7

The letter writer here is displaying a rather snobbish form of prejudice. The opposite of cheap is expensive. Are women who wear Rolex watches, expensive clothes and jewelry morally superior to women who wear less?

Morality encompasses many facets, including honesty, but morality is difficult to define except in relation to the individual or group's own subjective values.

Undoubtedly many women in Indonesia who are being driven around in luxury automobiles and who are adorned with expensive clothes and jewelry came by those items directly or indirectly from corruption or avoiding income taxes.

Are they "morally" superior to women who wear less in the hope of attracting a mate? If anybody thinks otherwise, they are totally naive about the way business is conducted in Indonesia.

Dina said the ad for that purple soap is non-educational and cheap. I can understand why she said so. I myself, am confused why most advertising companies use women as their icons or stars.

I think the use of the woman on that purple soap ad is really suitable because, as we know, that purple soap is identical to a woman.

There are, however, many advertisements for products which are not suitable to have a woman as an icon or star. An advertisement for instant coffee (where they dance and act like burned-worms*), cigarettes, etc are usually not related with women's themes.

I think, all advertising people should be more aware of this issue. Make advertisements as interesting as possible. It is not necessary to use women as your only models. Especially if they act and do something impolite.

Corruption, corruption, corruption..........will it ever end? I don't think so. To see so many people are trying to profit from the sweat of these poor, unsecured workers makes me almost sick.

I personally know two workers in Taiwan who work from sunrise to sunset for very little. I'd like to strangle these labor brokers. Corruption is immoral and profoundly anti-religious.

responding the letter LINT ZHERE Jakarta, about the women in the advertisement as a model. here we can see the main problem, which is : should we use women in as model in all advertisement which do not corelated with their usual activity? like advertisement of coffee, it is actually the right of company to attract costumer, although it is not proper for certain side, but it is still okay if it is still not show like a porn or sensual thing.

the ordinary people will not blame the owner, they still like it
