Yamaha racers dominate first day of combined practice at Spanish GP

Yamaha racers led by rookie rider Jorge Lorenzo of Spain completed the three fastest MotoGP combined practice sessions at the Spanish Grand Prix on Friday.

Valentino Rossi was second fastest ahead of Colin Edwards.

Lorenzo lapped a time of 1 minute, 40.321 seconds with five-time champion Rossi on 1:40.364. Edwards, of the United States, clocked 1:40.584.

Defending champion Casey Stoner of Australia rode his Ducati in 1:40.877, the sixth-fastest time.

American Nicky Hayden was fourth and Spain's Dani Pedrosa recovering from a wrist injury, fifth.

In 250cc, Mikka Kallio of Finland aboard a KTM was fastest in 1:43.111, ahead of Spain's Alex Debon and Julian Simon.

Aprilia took the top four spots in the 125cc category. Nicolas Terol of Spain rode round in 1:48.070, leading Simone Corsi of Italy and Bradle Smith of Britain. (***)
