ARRESTED TAIWANESE: (JP/Multa Fidrus)Customs and excise officers at Soekarno Hatta International Airport foiled an attempt to smuggle 6,913 grams of shabu shabu (crystal methamphetamine) from Hong Kong into the country Friday evening.
Officers arrested two Taiwanese passengers, identified as Kuo Ting Liu, 23, and Huang Yu Lum, 26, and confiscated the drugs estimated to be worth at least Rp 10 billion on the local market.
Rahmat Subagion, chief of the airport customs office, said the suspects arrived at the airport at about 8 p.m. on Friday on board China Airline's CI 679 flight.
"Officers, who saw the passengers arrive became suspicious as the two suspects looked nervous. Officers at the check point saw two bags that only had food in them," he said.
After waiting for a few minutes, the two Taiwainese came to claim the bags. Officers found it suspicious the bags only contained food and asked the passengers to open them.
Officers then examined the snack boxes and found 29 bags containing crystal methamphetamine wrapped in aluminum foil.
Eko Darmanto, chief of intelligence at the customs office, said the suspects told officers someone would to pick up the drugs as soon as they arrived at the airport.
"We always pay extra attention to all passengers arriving from Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Those are the countries along the drug smuggling routes," he said.
According to Eko, it was the third drug smuggling attempt customs officers have foiled since February.

And these two suspects have their shirts off and are holding them a) because the air conditioning failed or b) because the officers want them to show their tattoos to the media? If the later this is both a violation of their human rights as it is humiliating and civil rights to presumption of innocence (Indonesia loves to have laws to forget) as this is clearly is meant to send a signal of "guilty".

It was a great job of custom and excise officer. However, It proves that the demand of drugs and its "friends" from this country are big.The efforts of the police and other criminal justice system institutions has not make the condition of drug's using and distribution stop from this beloved country.
Drugs and corruption is the biggest threat of Indonesia now and in the future.
It must be an extraordinary policy and efforts of whole element of the nation to eradicate and to stop them.
The support of the community is needed very much to oversight the implementation of state institution and to participate actively in fighting towards this threat.
May God bless the whole of our efforts.. amen.
