JAKARTA: The city police have confiscated more than one million pirated CDs and DVDs in a string of raids in the first four months of the year, an officer said Saturday.
Police spokesman Sr. Comr. I Ketut Untung Yoga Ana said in a statement made available to media that the Directorate of Special Crimes at the city police seized a total of 1,014,923 pirated discs.
Yoga said police had confiscated 404,839 pirated DVDs, 25,000 of which were recordings of hit local movie Ayat-ayat Cinta (Verses of Love).
Police also seized 236,728 pornographic DVDs and 348,356 copies of pirated software and music CDs.
Also confiscated were several pieces of supporting evidence, including 45 DVD/CD duplicating machines, as well as PCs, printers and DVD players.
Of 32 suspects detained, seven will be tried soon and are facing a maximum five years in prison for violating the 2002 law on copyrights. -- JP
