PKS backed candidates win North Sumatra poll: quick count

A quick count declared Wednesday the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) backed pair of Syamsul Arifin and Gatot Pujo Nugroho the winners in the North Sumatra gubernatorial race.

The quick count, conducted by the Indonesian Survey Circle, announced the duo won 27.67 percent of the total votes.

The quick count took 22,921 samples from 350 polling stations across North Sumatra. There are 8,848,511 eligible voters in the province with voter participation reaching 57.77 percent.

Tritamtomo and Benny trailed the leading pair by 5.3 percent, followed by Wahab and Raden, who won 17.22 percent of the votes.

The North Sumatra Provincial Elections Commission (KPU) has not yet announced its official vote counting.

Syamsul and Gatot were also supported by the Development United Party, the Crescent and Star Party, Pancasila Patriot Party, and seven other small parties.

PKS backed candidates Ahmad Heryawan and his partner Dede Yusuf are now also leading the West Java gubernatorial race vote counting. (***)
