Letter: On cartoon about Tibet

The only reason Tibet is on the front pages of many newspapers and becoming such a big issue is because of the "Hollywoodization" of the whole issue.

The Dalai Lama meeting with Richard Gere or the Beastie Boys dedicating songs to him make such a strong impression on the naive and so-called young and hip generation (I like to call them the ipod/Starbuck generation who sit around pretending to look so important with their expensive laptops sipping on their coffee).

Why is Tibet such a big deal, but places that have suffered a million times more get less attention (see Chechnya or how about the plight of the Palestinians)?

It's only because Sean Penn kissed an infant in Darfur, or Angelina Jolie stroked the Dalai Lama's bald head that all of a sudden those countries need more focus or more attention. I truly believe that it's all just part of the big propaganda game.
