Hundreds of members of the Jemaah Ahmadiyah sect shortened their planned two-day national congress in Bali two hours on Saturday.
"The congress scheduled for two days was cut to two hours," Syamsir Ali, a spokesman of Ahmadiyah Indonesia said Saturday.
Ahmadiyah members from all over Indonesia came to Bali for the congress but the Bali Police told them to cancel it.
The two-hour meeting was held behind closed doors, Syamsir sai
Bali Police Chief Insp. Gen. Paulus Purwoko said he had never issued a permit to Ahmadiyah to hold a congress on the island.
The police have been keeping an eye on Ahmadiyah after a government team recommended the sect be banned. (***)
