ADPARA>JAKARTA: Following other artists' successful venture into politics, singer and actor Jamal Mirdad has joined a new political party.
"No, I'm not jokingly joining the political party. It's a calling," the 48-year-old actor told Antara.
Jamal, who received a Citra film award as best actor for Ramadhan dan Ramona, has joined the National People's Party, which was set by former information minister Harmoko.
"I hope the party can bridge people's aspirations," said the husband of actress Lidya Kandau.
Actors Rano Karno and Dede Yusuf won elections as Tangerang deputy regent and West Java deputy governor, respectively.
Rano joined the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle while Dede is a legislator for the National Mandate Party. -- JP
