The North Sumatra Elections Commission (KPUD) declared Thursday Syamsul Arifin and running mate Gatot Pujo Nugroho win the province's direct gubernatorial election.
The commission chairman Irham Buana Nasution said the pair won the race with a total of 1,396,892 votes or 28.31 percent from the total 4.93 million votes.
Tritamtomo and Benny Pasaribu grabbed 1,070,303 votes to stay in second place and Abdul Wahab Dalimunthe and Raden Muhammad Syafi'i were third with 858,528 votes.
The Indonesian Democratic Party for Struggle faction, which supported Tritamtomo and Benny, rejected the election result, claiming the poll commission had conducted various wrongdoings in
vote registration. (***)
