LaSalle College International Jakarta has proudly announced that one of its students won an award at an international fashion design contest in Beijing, China, held in late March.
LaSalle student Suhartini won the Participating Country Award at the 17th Hempel Awards for her remarkable designs. She was also recognized in the top 10 designers in the Best Design Interpretation.
Suhartini, who is now in her final year at LaSalle College, presented a collection she namedin accordance with the theme for this year's Hempel Award,Character".
Suhartini adorned her black-and-silver designs with elements that represented Chinese culture, such as fish motifs, antique Chinese coins and mei hua flowers - all of which represent fortune, or fu.
Suhartini's creative designs incorporated draping and gathered folds, as well as thematic accessories that won her the award.
Her achievement was a repeat of last year's success when another LaSalle College student, Veronika Tanukusuma, won the same award.
The Hempel Awards is an international fashion design contest organized by the Chinese fashion designers association, and has been held annually since 1993. Nearly 10,000 participants from 40 countries have taken part in the contest over the past 15 years.
The contest aims to find young designers from across the world who show great potential. It also encourages young designers to develop fundamental design techniques by showing their personality and talent through their creations.
The Hempel Awards also provides a platofrm for cultural exchange among young designers and a chance to become world-class fashion designer.
