The Surabaya Samator men's team lost by default after refusing to continue its match against Jakarta P2B Sananta in the fourth game of the Sampoerna Hijau Proliga Indoor Volleyball Tournament in Bandung on Saturday.
Samator, which was trailing 1-2 after three games, refused to play out the fourth game while in a 21-20 lead in protest over a contentious call by the referee.
It happened when a smash from Andri was blocked by Samator players, sending the ball to one of Sananta's lines, sparking different judgments from the two referees.
Because of their indecisiveness, they decided to replay the point. However, Samator players did not accept the decision and refused to return to the court.
Samator lost the fourth game and the match by default. Sananta had won the first two games 30-28, 25-23, and lost the third game 21-25.
"According to the first referee, the ball was in. Our team should have scored one more point to 22-20. But the second referee didn't agree. We don't accept that," Surabaya Samator manager Hari Trisnardjo said in a post-match press conference.
Hari added: "We decided to walk out of the game because I could no longer accept the bad line call from the referees."
"Based on the tournament consensus, the winner is P2B Sananta with a score of 25-21 in the fourth game," said Yamin Nuriman, a member of the refereeing board.
Also playing in the tournament, Jakarta BNI Taplus advanced to the final after chalking up two wins. It beat Bantul Yuso Tomkins 25-23, 25-23, 25-27, 25-21 in the second match of the men's division on the day.
In the women's division, Surabaya Bank Jatim beat Gresik Petrokimia 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-16), securing a place in the final against Jakarta Electric PLN, which defeated Jakarta BNI Taplus 3-1 (25-22, 25-10, 16-25, 25-18) earlier.
