Widayanto wins three awards

JAKARTA: When ceramic artist F. Widayanto showed up at the closing night of a recent handicraft exhibition Sunday, he did not expect to be taking awards home with him.

The artist was visiting the 10th Jakarta International Handicraft Trade Fair "Inacraft 2008", at Jakarta Convention Center, and greeted visitors shopping for ceramics.

Widayanto (aka Yanto) was holding his Loro Blonyo piece, which symbolizes marital faithfulness, beaming with pride.

"This Loro Blonyo piece of mine won the Inacraft Award 2008. It's one of the awards which I received during this year's show," Yanto said.

Apart from Loro Blonyo, Yanto has produced numerous other signature works which he has exhibited here and overseas, and received two other awards at the event.

"'Inacraft' offers opportunities for craftsmen to compete and develop their creative skills. Through 'Inacraft' I want to introduce ceramics as an industrial art, not just an exclusive form," he said. -- JP/P.J.Leo
