Ahmadiyah 'not persecuted' by government

The government has yet to announce a decision regarding a ban on the religious sect Ahmadiyah but said Wednesday it was working to protect the group from continued attacks.

"We are trying to cope with the issue. We have not arrived at a particular prescription for how to deal with it," minister of foreign affairs Hassan Wirayuda said at a press briefing here Wednesday.

Ahmadiyah followers have been under fresh attacks in recent weeks following a recommendation from the Coordinating Board for Monitoring Mystical Beliefs in Society (Bakor Pakem) last month to ban the sect.

Sect followers have been subjected to repeated violence since the Indonesian Ulema Council issued a decree last year calling the group "heretical".

A number of Ahmadiyah mosques, schools and houses have been attacked throughout the country.

Hassan was speaking on the sidelines of the third Global Media Dialogue titled "Ethical Journalism in Extreme Conditions: The Challenge of Diversity".

The forum was attended by 130 journalists and editors from almost 70 countries.

Hassan said the Ahmadiyah case was one of the problems threatening the country's unity, and that the violence against the sect's followers was the result of horizontal conflict.

"Ahmadiyah followers are not persecuted by the government. There have been many horizontal conflicts among groups in our society," he said, adding it seemed Ahmadiyah was not Islamic in terms of its teachings.

However, he said, the police had been taking measures to protect Ahmadiyah followers and to arrest those who had attacked followers of the sect.

At the opening of the conference, Hassan said no group or individual should be allowed to make an object of ridicule anything that is sacred to a community's religion.

"That would be an act of reckless malice," he said, commenting on the cartoons published in Denmark two years ago that depicted the Prophet Muhammad.

He called on media actors to strive for judicious balance between the freedom of expression and cultural sensitivity.

Wegard Harsvik, Norway's deputy minister of culture and church affairs, pledged US$3 million to increase funding for freedom of expression and independent media efforts.

Harsvik said it would be used to boost freedom of expression and independent media in conflict areas.

Elisabeth Eide, a senior researcher from the University of Oslo, Norway, said that through such international media dialogues, she could see journalists were eager to see the world more than ever before.

"They realize they have to see the world from different perspectives and learn from each other," she said.

Bambang Harymurti, a member of Indonesian Press Council, said there was a dynamic change in the relationship between the national and international realms.

"We should adapt to this situation and ... at some point we should have a global code of ethics for journalists," he said.

Subject: Ah! Indonesia

Excellencies,
“TO ALLAH WE BELONG AND TO HIM IS OUR RETURN”…..(Al Quran).

Muslims normally recite this verse upon a loss, particularly loss of lives. World conscious seems to have died and therefore I recited this verse. Life is perhaps the only cheapest commodity in today’s modern world where modern human being has displayed the values worst than those of animals. And you the leaders of these herds of animal like creatures (so-called modern human beings) bear responsibility of promoting their satanic and animalistic instincts.
In the name of religion man of today has caused worst damages not only to the humanity but also invited curse of our Lord, Allah. Remember! you who have been bestowed with the responsibility to lead the masses will be held accountable before God Almighty for not acting to protect the innocents falling victims to the brutalities of fellow humans infected with satanic evilness.
There is only ONE GOD to whom we all belong and to whom we all will return. It does not matter with what name we call Him, He remains the Master. It is the misfortune of this modern man who has divided God into pieces creating their separate Gods and thus loosing the spirit of brotherhood and indulging into destructive and evil activities in the name of their individual gods.
Diversified religious beliefs should be seen many flowers in a bouquet or like different children of same father expressing their love in their own ways to their common father. Like no one child in a family forces others to respect the father his way, no one believer of God has right to force others to follow his way. This is what God has taught to His children but unfortunate children have refused to listen to Him. It has been the tradition of God to send chosen reformers to us to remind His commandments. God can not be limited and neither can be told to stop sending His messengers. Our duty is to listen, respect and follow all of them because they call us on the path of Allah and this is the best path for us.

Ah! Indonesia!
Unfortunate and innocent common Indonesians will fall victims of the curse of God for the failings of their leaders for not protecting innocent members of Ahmadiyyah and other minorities who are being persecuted for their beliefs. Several years back in 1974 and then in 1980 similar dramas were played in Pakistan where in the name of service to Allah a bunch of worldly mullahs and their masters let the rein of terror loose on members of Ahmadiyya community and numerous were killed, their properties were looted and burnt, their places of worship were ran sacked. The world conscious remained unmoved and the leaders of that time remained shamelessly silent.
Do the leaders need to be reminded what happened to those responsible leaders like Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto who claimed to have resolved 90 years old issue of Ahmadiyya and General Zia ul Haq? Pakistan has seen curse of God and peace has been taken away from that land. The Pakistani nation is suffering the wrath of Allah for the sins of their leaders.

A little over hundred years back two pious and holly men and highly respected religious scholar (Sahibzada Abdul Latif and his Maulvi Abdur Rehman) were stoned to death in Afghanistan on the order of the King under pressure of fundamentalist mullah (clergymen) of that time. Their only sin was that they had accepted the message of founder of Ahmadiyyah (Ahmadiyyat). History bears witness that not only the end of the king and his kingdom was a lesson but also that peace was taken away from that land and the nation suffers for the heinous acts of their leaders and clergymen.

Ah! Indonesia you are headed for the curse of Allah. It was in your land where in 2005 innocent Christian girls were beheaded. Tsunami has not been taken as a warning and now food shortage is on way; the ignorant political leaders of that nation and their so-called religious leaders should learn the lessons from the fate of Afghanistan and Pakistan and have fear of wrath of Allah. They will be responsible for any curse coming to Indonesia and it is the duty of leaders of international community to take appropriate actions to protect the lives, honor and properties of innocent members of Ahmadiyya community and other religious minorities living in Indonesia.

O’ the leaders, remember! You will be held responsible before God Almighty for your shameful silence upon such gruesome acts against humanity. You can not get away calling such acts against humanity as the country’s internal matters. Also do not forget it was your shameful silence in the past that has encouraged the terrorism to grow across the globe.

Therefore act before it is too late and before we return to God Almighty.

Sincerely,
Tahir Iqbal

Ahmadiyah' followers may exist only if they used 'Kitab' other than Al-Qur'an. I believe they will not experience a violent if they use their own kitab instead of Al-qur'an.
As we know that talking about Al-qur'an means Muhammad S.A.W as the prophet. So, used your own kitab.
