JAKARTA: ASEAN Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan, (center) and Indonesian Tourism and Culture Minister Jero Wacik (left) were seen playing the angklung, a traditional bamboo musical instrument, at an event at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta in Central Jakarta on Tuesday evening.

In an interactive session, the two officials, along with other invited guests, including foreign diplomats, played several songs, such as Kicir-Kicir, I Have a Dream and Heal The World.

The event titled "Mosaic of the Archipelago" was initiated by Surin, the former Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the third meeting of ASEAN Ministers responsible for Arts and Culture in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, on Jan. 12 this year.

As well as the angklung, the event showcased 11 dances and performances from various provinces in Indonesia, including the Nyai Lenggang and Saman dances from Jakarta and Aceh respectively. -- JP/P.J. Leo
