The Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA), which brings together major oil companies and associates, is to hold its 32nd convention and exhibition May 27 to 29 in Jakarta.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is slated to open the three-day event, which will feature discussions between industrial partners and government along with an exhibition showcasing the latest industry technology.

So far some 113 exhibitors, including oil and gas companies, service companies, contractors and consultants are scheduled to participate in the event.

IPA president director Roberto Lorato said Thursday that since oil and gas firms were facing challenges due to rising oil prices, this year's seminar would have the theme "meeting energy challenges through cooperation".

Lorato said one of the main aims of the convention was to facilitate dialogue between the government and contractors to look at ways to improve the performance of the country's oil and gas industry.

High-ranking officials from the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry and the upstream oil and gas regulator BPMigas will also participate.

On the last day of the event, the government will also announce a new round of bidding for oil and gas blocks.

The IPA was established in 1971, with the group now comprising 47 company members and 93 associate members. -- JP
