Thirty-three young Indonesian scholars have won long-term scholarships from the government of Germany, through the local German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) office, to pursue their studies in the European country.
The scholarship award ceremony was held on the evening of April 28 at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Jakarta.
Funded by the German ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Economic Development and Cooperation, the scholarships will allow the winning Indonesian academicians and professionals to pursue their Master and doctoral degrees.
"We hope they can finish their study on time. We also hope that after finishing their study, they will return to their work and to help promote development in Indonesia," said Brigitta Gelach, a representative from the DAAD Jakarta.Recipients of the scholarship were chosen through a process that involves a selection committee consisting of German and Indonesian academicians.
Since its establishment a few decades ago, about 27,000 Indonesian university graduates and researchers have been given a chance through the DAAD to pursue advanced degrees or to conduct research projects in Germany.
Germany remains one of the top academic destinations among Indonesian students and researchers while the DAAD has continuously supported an exchange of international academicians.
The prestigious DAAD scholarship is awarded every year as part of 400 advanced studies and research scholarships extended to Indonesian scholars and professionals.
