JAKARTA: Author Remy Sylado, along with 17 other artists, will show their paintings in an exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of National Awakening Day, which falls on May 20.

The exhibition will be held at Galeri Cipta II, Taman Ismail Marzuki Cultural Park, Central Jakarta, from May 22 to May 30.

"I plan to exhibit five paintings ... all figurative works," Remy, who has written dozens of novels and theater scripts, told The Jakarta Post on Saturday.

He said the exhibition would also be held to mark the recovery of noted painter Jeihan, who recently underwent heart surgery.

"Jeihan was my schoolmate at the School of Visual Arts in Solo, Central Java," Remy said.

Jeihan and his friends, including leading poet Sapardi Djoko Damono, columnist Jakob Sumardjo and painter Sri Warso Wahono, will join the exhibition titled "Sabang Merauke".-- JP/A. Junaidi
