176 vehicles get parking tickets

JAKARTA: Police have ticketed 176 vehicles illegally parked in North Jakarta within a week after the Jakarta Police and the city transportation agency began the parking battle.

Imam, an official of North Jakarta's transportation agency said Wednesday the agency found in one week 103 public vehicles illegally parked after officials patrolled Jl. Yos Sudarso, Jl. Enggano, Jl. Kamal Muara, Jl. Gunung Sahari, Jl. R.E. Martadinata and Jl. Raya Cilincing.

"Public vehicles are the most common violators. We found 52 public minivans, 31 minibuses and 30 buses," he said, as quoted by Beritajakarta.com.

"We had to take tough measures against the drivers because they just ignored the parking signs," he added.

As part of the joint battle against illegal parking, the city agency has also employed 22 wheel clamps and 22 tow cars, while the police have lent 10 tow cars.

According to the city transportation agency, it tows 10 to 15 cars a day. --JP
