Foundation to hold education parade

JAKARTA: The Sampoerna Foundation, a local charity organization for education, plans to hold a parade Sunday to commemorate National Education Day and the 100th anniversary of the National Awakening.

Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo, Education Minister Bambang Sudibyo and the State Minister for Research and Technology Kusmayanto Kadiman will take part in the parade along with 10,000 students and teachers from Jakarta schools. Celebrities, including actress Dian Sastrowardoyo, will also take part.

"All participants will vow to help enhance education in Indonesia before taking part in the parade," foundation spokeswoman Citra I. Lestari said here Wednesday.

"Hopefully, the public will care more about education after the event," she said.

The event will also include a youth choir as well as collaborated music and dance performances.

The parade starts at the National Monument and continues to Jl. MH Thamrin in front of Sarinah before moving back to the National Monument. -- JP
