Presently, a debate is going on in The Jakarta Post's columns regarding a mass transit system to reach Soekarno-Hatta airport. This debate was triggered by the frequent closure of roads leading passengers there, creating total chaos.
As far as a mass commuter system for Jakarta is concerned, a subway system or a 'local' rail link at ground level are unsuitable because of the ease with which our city gets flooded, even by minor rainfall.
The only reliable system for Jakarta would be a monorail at an elevated height. I have enjoyed riding the monorail in Japan to one of its airports and also in KL for the city commute.
Governor Pak Fauzie Bowo should take a team to places where such a monorail system is working and use it in Jakarta in place of busway system, which uses the existing roads already inadequate for Jakarta traffic volume.
I appeal to our governor to fearlessly go for the monorail and scrap the busway system in stages. K. B. KALE

Indonesia must scrap the word "international" in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport because it is not an international standard airport. It's very embarrassing to see passengers being picked up by army trucks. It is not professional. I am sure world is laughing at us now. ROSYA

At least the airport is still better than the planes, only I need to prepare my swimsuit next time so that I can get to the Jakarta airport on time. LIA

The country's airports are the worst in Asia and are a shameful reflection of this great country. BROOKS

Apart from being hampered by strikes and flooding, the airport itself needs serious improvements on a number of aspects, including security, convenience and restrooms. ASEP

The airport must be seriously renovated because the airport is the face of the country. GAZI SALOOM

Who is stealing the airport tax? Why don't you have to put buckets in Jakarta's airport on rainy days? ALWIS

It's ridiculous. Our government should fix this situation because an international airport is the gateway of the country. NILA

I can understand why there are still strikes and floods. But the low quality of Jakarta's airport is very embarrassing. The Jakarta airport is the worst in the region. Compared to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bangkok, Jakarta's airport should be ashamed.
Jakarta's airport desperately needs a facelift, a new international standard terminal should be built. Finally, all I can say is toilets, toilets and toilets. How can we accept such a low standard? DAVE

We have a poor quality airport because the institution tasked to manage the facility lacks discipline. What happens in our airport is sad: delayed flights, dirty toilets, ticket scalpers and airplane accidents. LEIL FATAYA

I suggest the government pay serious attention to the problem. Please, fix the problem before it becomes worse and worse. BIMO K.P.
