Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X is set to visit Japan to promote Visit Indonesia Year (VIY) 2008, said Garuda Indonesia area manager M Arif Wibowo on Friday.

"The sultan will visit Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo to promote Yogyakarta and will attend a function marking the reopening of Garuda's Nagoya-Denpasar, Bali, route on June 2, 2008," Arif said.

He said the Sultan would also attend a series of travel seminars involving the Japanese travel industry, tourism associations and aviation industry representatives.

Yogyakarta is a sister city to Kyoto, which is located in the Kansai region. The two regions historically have had close ties in cultural exchange, education and also trade. (*)
