The results of Indonesia’s Thomas Cup team – South Korea match was shocking to many.
Indonesian Badminton Federation Sutiyoso said he thought the Indonesian team would fare better.
"I really did not expect the result would be like this, I predicted the outcome would be 3-2 for Indonesia," Sutiyoso said after the semi-final match between the Indonesian and South Korean Thomas Cup teams, which resulted in a 0-3 score for the latter team.
"Nevertheless we have to accept their victory because they played so superbly," he said.
Sutiyoso added that the odds for Indonesia’s Uber Cup were not in Indonesia’s favor.
"At tomorrow's Uber Cup match, it is like (a battle of) David against Goliath, and I hope David would win," he said.
"Theoretically, the Indonesians are the underdog, the Chinese shuttlers are much higher in world ranking than ours, but who knows a miracle may happen," the former Jakarta governor added.
Meanwhile, Sports Minister Adhyaksa Dault, was also surprised by the Thomas Cup result.
"I really did not think we would lose 3-0, but as you have seen, the opponents are no match for the Indonesians, and they therefore deserve to win," he said. (*)
